- WHAT: High Traffic Permeable Parking Lots to meet Low Impact Development efforts
- WHERE: Rockaway, NY
- SIZE: 48,000 sq. ft.
The new NYC Rockaway Island to Brooklyn ferry route needed a customer parking lot. They required a permeable parking lot to reduce the burden on the city sewer system and provide Low Impact Development to the already over developed land on Rockaway Island.
The transit authority looked at many permeable options such as other grid pavers and permeable concrete/asphalt. After visiting some existing TRUEGRID sites and sampling the product, they made the decision that TRUEGRID PRO PLUS was right for the project. TRUEGRID was cost effective compared to the other options but also supplied the robustness and strength for the high traffic everyday use and snow plowing in the winter.
Project Scope
NYC Ferry needed a customer parking lot for their new ferry running from Rockaway Island to Brooklyn. They wanted it to be low impact, improve runoff and decrease stress to the drainage system in the area. It had to be cost effective and commercial strength to handle every day high traffic and snow plowing in the winter.
Solution
TRUEGRID PRO PLUS with high visibility SuperSpots for striping the parking spaces.
TRUE RESULTS
TRUEGRID provided the results they were looking for and the project stayed in budget and on time.
The TRUEGRID parking lot is now an example to the over developed area on how to reduce stormwater runoff's impact to the area, and improve pollution going into the city systems.
